February 2011
A Leicestershire businessman has just paid £12,000 at a DVLA auction to secure the personalised registration KHA 1N.Mark Smithson won bidding for the number plate at the auction, held at the Imperial War Museum, Manchester in February.
"Khan is a hugely popular name, especially in my home town of Leicester," he said.
"When I spotted KHA 1N in the auction I just couldn't resist speculating with a bid and fortunately I won it."
"It is a sound investment."
Smithson had to fight to get his plate, though: apparently, all 12 phone lines were booked for external bidding, while there was internet bidding too. Along with competition from a packed auction hall, as well!
