KHA 1N makes £12,000 at auction

February 2011

A Leicestershire businessman has just paid £12,000 at a DVLA auction to secure the personalised registration KHA 1N.
Mark Smithson won bidding for the number plate at the auction, held at the Imperial War Museum, Manchester in February.
"Khan is a hugely popular name, especially in my home town of Leicester," he said.
"When I spotted KHA 1N in the auction I just couldn't resist speculating with a bid and fortunately I won it."
"It is a sound investment."
Smithson had to fight to get his plate, though: apparently, all 12 phone lines were booked for external bidding, while there was internet bidding too. Along with competition from a packed auction hall, as well!
