March 2011
British Car Registrations' sponsored Alpine skier, Florence Bell of Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, is the recipient of a SportsAid award donated by City lawfirm Eversheds. Cornelius Medvei, Managing Partner of Eversheds' City Office said: "We're hoping that we can help some of the nation's brightest prospects at one of the most vital times of their careers. Support at this early stage can often mean the difference between athletes persevering or dropping out of their chosen sport."
Previous recipients of the SportsAid award include Sir Chris Hoy (cycling), Rebecca Adlington (swimming), Sir Steve Redgrave (rowing) and Dame Kelly Holmes (athletics) to name but a few.
On receiving the award, Florence gave her thanks: "I would like to say thank you to SportsAid, to my main sponsor, British Car Registrations and to Eversheds. Skiing is a very expensive sport and I have to spend large amounts of time on snow, in the mountains of Europe and the Southern Hemisphere in order to train, to race and to remain competitive. I am very proud to have been recognised in this way by such an important organisation in sport and I hope to reward that recognition through my results in forthcoming races."
Florence's next major competition will be the Topolino races in Folgaria, Italy (March 18th and 19th) where she has been selected to represent Great Britain at the unofficial Children's World Cup in the disciplines of Slalom and Giant Slalom. Said Florence: "It was my goal for 2011 to be chosen for the Topolino races. I am very excited to have been selected because it is considered the most important race for any child to participate in. It attracts the very best ski racers in the World aged 13 – 15 and it has previously been won by almost all of the most successful and famous ski racers in the World."
