DVLA Accelerates Release of New-Style V5C

September 2011

For the last year or more, DVLA has been issuing the new style of V5C registration document to all new vehicles and to all updated documents (those issued when a vehicle has changed hands, gone through a cherished transfer etc). Beginning in October this year, however, new documents will be issued to every single vehicle registered in this Country; all vehicles being represented on the new V5C by November 2012. The new document is identfied by the fact that the top half of the front page is coloured red (its predecessor having been blue). DVLA is accelerating the roll-out of these documents as a result of a theft of a batch of blank blue documents. The existence of these blank documents presents a potential risk to the public who could end up buying a stoken or cloned vehicle; hence the issue of the new document has been stepped-up. Anyone receiving a new-type V5C registration document should immediately destroy their old document. DVLA has not disclosed the cost of this exercise but it is likely to run into several million at a time when the Nation is more strapped for money than at any previous time in living memory.
