Sell car registrations
Step 1 Read The Quotation
The figure we quote will have been personally calculated by our most senior director who, with many years' experience, prepares all our valuations and who appears for litigants in court as an expert witness. The figure shown is the sum of money which will be paid to you on completion of the transfer.
A year-related replacement registration will be allocated to your vehicle free of charge. You will not have to pay anything towards the transfer, the fee for the Department of Transport being paid by the person who buys your registration. In fact, your new registration may also be attractive in which case we will automatically send you a further quotation to sell that one too.
Please read our terms of business, as it is important that you understand the agreement between us before you proceed further. A copy will be sent to you with our quotation.
Step 2 Return The Authorisation
If you are happy to proceed when you have read the quotation, simply fill-in the authorisation slip making sure that you have answered every question fully and post it back to us. Provided your vehicle is roadworthy, you may use it throughout the advertising and transfer period.
We cannot advertise your registration without your permission, so the sooner we receive your authorisation to sell, the sooner it will be sold.
To make it easier for you, we enclose a reply paid envelope with every quotation. What could be simpler?
Step 3 Respond Promptly
When we have sold your registration, we will write to you to request the vehicle documents we need. To ensure a swift and trouble-free transfer, it is important that you respond promptly to our requests and send precisely what we have asked for (we will only ask you for the documents we need when we need them).
Sometimes, the Department of Transport will want to see your vehicle so that they can verify the chassis number. This only takes a few minutes and will be arranged locally to you. If your vehicle is not roadworthy, you will have to take it for this inspection on a low-loader (your Yellow Pages will provide a list of vehicle recovery operators).
After they have processed the transfer application and carried out an inspection if required, the Department of Transport will approve the transfer and completion is indicated by the issue of a new V5 registration document for your vehicle bearing its replacement mark. When you have supplied us with a copy of the V351 and the V5, we will send you a cheque for the agreed amount.
