Cover Plates
This is a very misleading term because there is, actually, no such thing as a "cover plate
".Number plates
must be made to British Standards and can only be supplied by aregistered number plate supplier
(registered with DVLA
). Some less than scrupulous organisations will offer "cover plates
" by which they facetiously mean that they are illegal in some way. They can be illegal by means of mis-spacing or the digits have been altered in some way. There should be no doubt as to the potential penalties of using "cover plates
" – the mis-spacing of aregistration mark
or any other misrepresentation of it will render it illegal and the owner liable to a £1000 and confiscation of theregistration mark
