Number Plates

A

vehicle registration mark

must be displayed on the vehicle using "

number plates

". Any vehicle first registered after 1974 must display

number plates

with a reflective backing (yellow backing on the rear and white backing on the front). These are normally made from acrylic with a wipe clean finish. You should only buy

number plates

from a

DVLA registered number plate

supplier. They must be made to British Standards and the post code and name of the supplier must appear along the bottom of the plate. In years gone by it was possible to

personalise the physical number plate

with any number of things such as the vehicle's marque, the owner's name, special messages (eg: Happy Birthday Doreen). These days, no additional text or logos are permitted, by Law.
